Bowie Man Gets 294 Months in Prison for Leading Drug Ring

Philip "Lil Phil" Whitehurst, 32, of Bowie, was sentenced 24.5 years for leading a crime ring that distributed crack cocaine in Landover.

A Bowie man was sentenced to prison for possessing and intending to sell between 2.8 and 8.4 kilograms of crack cocaine in a Kentland neighborhood, according to a release issued by the U.S. District Attorney's Office.

According to the state's attorney's office, court documents state that Philip "Lil Phil" Whitehurst, 32, led an organized a crime ring that ran a large-scale crack cocaine distribution operation in the Kentland neighborhood of Landover between June and August of 2010. Whitehurst's sentence is 294 months or 24.5 years.

“Federal authorities worked with the Prince George’s County Police Department and State’s Attorney’s Office to dismantle a criminal organization that dealt drugs and despair in the Kentland area of Landover, Maryland,” said U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein in a statement. “This sort of coordinated effort contributes to the crime reduction in the county.”
 
An FBI-executed search warranted on Whitehurst's residence in September 2011 also uncovered a loaded semi-automatic weapon, according to the release.

Eleven of Whitehurt's co-conspirators have also been recently sentenced in connection with this case.
