Bowie Adds 3 New Officers, Deputy Police Chief

The officers were part of a class of 50 who recently graduated from the training academy and Dwayne Preston assumes his new duties with the Bowie Police Department.

The city of recently welcomed three new officers who graduated from the training academy.

Jason Coleman received the Sgt. Joseph K. Brown Award for being the top scholastic achiever in the class, according to a press release from the Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD). The Bowie Blade-News reported that Francis Stevens and John Lee III are the other new Bowie police officers.

County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, Prince George's County Police Chief Mark A. Magaw and other officials reportedly hosted the graduation ceremony on Jan. 5 at in Upper Marlboro.

The three new Bowie police officers are part of a 50-member class that included 46 PGPD officers and one Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department officer, according to a release.

“These young men and women represent the future of law enforcement in Prince George’s County," Magaw said in a release. "I take great pleasure in welcoming these fine young officers into the law enforcement family.”

According to the city of Bowie's Facebook page, Dwayne Preston was sworn in on Jan. 2 as Bowie's new deputy police chief after more than 20 years with the PGPD. The announcement about was reported by Bowie Patch in October 2011.
