Speak Out: Are You Still Without Power?

About 85 percent of Bowie residents were out of power after Friday's storm.

At the height of the power outages caused by , more than 18,000 Bowie residents, or 85 percent, were left without power.

As of Monday night at 7:30 p.m., BGE estimated that number was down to 6,600. Bowie's substations and most of the traffic lights were restored yesterday, and now BGE is working to get all residential power restored.

If you are in a small pocket of homes that has not been restored, please check again with BGE to make sure they’re aware that your power is still out. Call 1-877-778-2222.

For those still without power, the is serving as a 24-hour cooling center, and on Adelphi Road in Hyattsville is a pet-friendly shelter. is also open to residents needing relief from the heat.

Are you in a neighborhood that is still without power? How are you keeping cool? If your power is back on, when was it restored?

Day 4 no power. The problem was identified on Old Chapel Road, but as of 10 AM no crew was assigned to repair it. What is with BGE management? The crews work hard, the call takers are professional, but the top levels????

They've had hundreds of thousands of customers to bring back up. Surely you don't think 4 days is unreasonable. Inconvenient, yes but considering that half of all their customers were knocked out, I think they're doing great.

Very dissapointed in the City of Bowie. Spent a ton on a communications system to notify us of problems, a ton on the salary of our public safety director, and a ton on the city manager. All they tell us is the ovious - 5 messages. In the height of the problem; where could you get gas, what stores were open within a short drive, what malls could we hang out at to stay cool and to treat intersections without lights as 4-way stops. Sad, in this day, with everything that the area is connected to, the City didn't do a better job on what they could control - Information.

Day 4 - Still no power! I live in the Idlewild section. Called BGE at 9:30 this morning, operator said there is a tree down and BGE has to contract out to get it cut and then they can restore power. When I asked her how long that would take, she had no reply.

I know you guys must be feeling so frustrated, not to mention hot. I heard BGE is going to be working around the clock in Bowie tonight and tomorrow to get everyone back on line. Fingers crossed for those of you enduring the dark and heat.

We just need some information. My lights flickered last night. There's no reason they can't provide a list to the City of Bowie, who approved the tree trimming project (I let them cut down 12 trees on my property to free the lines), describing what generally the problems are and where. I rented a hotel room tonight but I have no clue if they're close to resolving the problem or not. I'm not mad about the outage, but >90% of the County's BGE customers lost power-how is last even possible: just tell us.

My mom in Enterprise Estates still has no power. BGE says they are waiting for a construction crew to remove tree limbs from feeder. The first step has not even been taken and tomorrow will be a week. She is staying with me but some people have no place to go. Too bad can't be faster.
