PHOTOS: Christmas in October

Tis the season?

Christmas Day is still 70 days away, but you'd never know it by looking at the seasonal shelves in Bowie's big box retailers.

While looking at Halloween decorations with my littlest one, he became confused when confronted with a large, white, glowing lawn ornament.

"Mom, is that a ghost?" my three-and-a-half year old queried, sounding completely baffled.

It was not a ghost. It was a snowman, although given we were otherwise surrounded by Halloween decorations, his confusion was understandable.

I went on a little tour of Bowie's discount stores last week and found, right along side the pumpkins and Halloween candy - Christmas trees, candy cane lights, life-sized electric penguins and giant, inflatable snow globes.

Thanksgiving is 37 days away and there was nary a turkey or cornucopia in sight.

Here's a gallery of some of the "seasonal" decorations I spied in Bowie stores last week. If these photos are any indicators, I expect the neighbors will have their Christmas lights up before you can say "Trick-or-treat."

Jenni, I agree. I love Nordstroms because they refuse to hang Christmas decorations before black friday. I wish more retailers would go back to that.

I know, Tamarra - and I love the holidays. I start listening to Christmas music on Thanksgiving, but when small children are confusing the holidays, something is amiss.

I guess i can understand where you would prefer christmas decorations come later in the year, sometime after black friday sounds about right but you also have to keep in mind that most small retailers aren't nordstroms. with small retailers like this that have to put out what they have in hopes of getting some revenue. my family usually gets some decor from a discount store, but this year they really did not have anything halloween related. so we decided to get some decor from http://www.homeseasons.com/Halloween-Decorations-c10/ and its turning out real well.

My primary goal of forming this group, is to give all of us sufferers a feeling of belonging. SoRead More many people feel like they have no where, and no one to turn to, and I want to be that person and provide a group that can offer a pick-me-up throughout the day, or something to look forward to mid-week. So far, I have had 3 people reach out to me which is wonderful, however, I would like to have at least 5 people for our first meeting. I look forward to hearing from YOU soon! ~Cheers, Brittany
