This map shows a snapshot of how many homes don’t use landline telephones across different areas of Bowie.

Certain areas of the map might be explained by more people opting out of landlines in favor of just owning a cellphone. More than one-third of American homes report having only wireless telephones according to a CDC report.

Right now in the U.S. about 97 percent of people ages 18-24 have cell phones and 37 percent of all teens have smartphones.

The data are from the United States Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey. (Note: Census.gov was "unavailable" at the time this article was published thanks to the federal government shutdown.)  These values are an estimate for 2011 taking into account 60 months of collected data.
