BGE Power Outages May Extend Through Weekend

Customers are urged to prepare for more outages due to the weekend weather forecast.

The more than 400 Bowie residents still without power may have persevere through another dangerously hot weekend before electricity is restored, according to a press release issued by Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. last night.

They also are urging customers to prepare for additional outages as severe thunderstorms are in the local forecast throughout the weekend.

The company said power has been restored to 94 percent of customers who lost service after last . Some Bowie residents are among the 6 percent still in the dark.

Neighborhoods among those still without power as of Wednesday night include Idlewild, Yorktown, Heather Hills, Chapel Forge, Pointer Ridge, Huntington, Ternberry/Ridgeview Estates, Oakpond, Mitchellville East and Buckingham.

“While we continue to work around the clock to restore customers currently affected by outages, safety remains the number one priority,” Stephen J. Woerner, senior vice president and chief operating officer for BGE, said in a press release. “We urge any customers without power to check on their neighbors and to consider visiting one of the several cooling centers, as temperatures are expected to rise throughout the week and through the weekend."

The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the 100s on Saturday and the upper 90s on Sunday.

BGE stated they have about 4,500 employees working to restore power to secondary lines, which should bring electricity back to the remaining 6 percent still experiencing an outage.
