Wisdom Wednesdays: "What are you Loving?"

Did you notice the title asks, "What are you loving" and not "Who are you loving"? It is sometimes so easy to get caught up in the many things that make up our worlds. Big homes, nice cars, fancy clothes, and expensive restaurants are just a few. Now don't get me wrong, I don't see a problem in having or desiring nice things.  I believe the issue lies when we give more time to those things than we do to building our relationship with God.  After all, if it were not for His favor we would not have anything.

Have you ever been so caught up in your "things" that you were just too tired to go to church? Or have you attended events instead of attending church? Every now and then, life gets in the way of our good intentions.  Every now and then you may just be too exhausted from even serving God in ministry throughout the week that you need to rest during the time of service.  Yes, the body needs proper rest and health in order to do God's work to its fullest.  I think that when our worship time with other believers is habitually replaced with things of this world, we are breaking down the foundational structure of the church. Having things is not bad but when you love these things more than you love God, well ... then it's a problem.  I Timothy 6:10 reminds us that, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."  Many people misquote this scripture by saying money is bad or people who have money are bad.  But, "love of money is a root, though not the root of evil."  The ultimate result of a life focused on material things is sorrow and pain. As Christians, we have to continue to live a godly life and not chase after things of this world. So I ask you, "What are you loving?"

Now that's a word!
