Wisdom Wednesdays: "Walking is Good for Your Heart and Soul"

"Walk, don't run" was an oh so familiar phrase I heard growing up.  Whether I was in church, school, stores or any other public place I can still recall the phrase, "stop running. Walk!" I can even remember saying those very same words to my own children.  As they became older and got involved in sports, my words changed to "stop walking, go ahead and run".   Big smile.

Now wouldn't you know that life causes us to change our pace all of the time.  There are moments when a nice slow pace is absolutely fine.  Times like when your body needs to relax or when you are listening to your favorite artist.  Oh, don't forget that stroll down memory lane that causes you to want time to just sit still.  Ahh, walking can be so wonderful.  Ooow, while we are in the moment, let's go ahead and take in a good deep breath of fresh crisp air and let it go slowly.  Doesn't it just feel good?  Walking can be a simple yet powerful way to release energy and get your heart healthy.

Did you know that walking is not only good for your heart, but also good for your soul? Let's look at 1 Timothy 4:7, "But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness."  Exercise is another word for physical training.  In order to strengthen our walk with the Lord, we must train our minds to stay in His Word, obey His commandments, run to Jesus through all of our trials and tribulations, and not get weary along the way.
