BLOG: Simple Struggles of a Stay-At-Home-Mom

Make an adventure out of a summer rain! You never know what your kids will learn from a little bit of uninstructed playtime.

Every minute of every day is an opportunity to explore, learn, a moment to cherish, a new adventure.  If you've ever been sick yourself while trying to take care of your sick child at the same time, then you know it is no fun.  This was my life the past week so we really needed this sudden rain, it made for a bright moment!

Summer rains are always the best.  Especially if it's a warm rain!  Don't you remember playing in the rain when you were little?  Splashing in the puddles?  Playing in the mud AFTER the rain and having your parents LITERALLY hose you off *maybe that just happened to me??*

I want Mason to have these memories, and you can never start to young.  So tonight we played in the rain.  Well Mason played and I took pictures.  I did put the camera down and splash with him for a little bit.  Have you let your kids explore and get dirty, or clean lately?

It seems that children play less and less outside versus not even twenty years ago when I was little.  While tv shows, movies, computer, and video games can be educational, it is NO substitute for using their imagination. If you weren't aware, PLAYING has been shown to be a crucial part of social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.  It is a way for them to learn about thier body and their surroundings while using all five senses.  Even if your little one isn't walking, set them in a puddle and let them explore.

What adventure will you have tomorrow?
