Bowie Aims to Boost Sustainability at Third Annual Habitat Tour

The tour is part of a larger effort to become a certified Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

The Third Annual Bowie Certified Habitat Tour kicks off next month as The Bowie Gardens for Wildlife Habitat Team continues to spread awareness and education about sustainability.

From 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, four homes and one elementary school outdoor classroom are showcasing sustainable gardening practices. Visitors will get to learn how to install and maintain ponds, and use native plants to attract pollinators and birds, according to an April 28 City of Bowie press release. For a listing of tour sites and times, visit the City of Bowie website.

In educating the public about sustainable practices, Bowie is aiming to become a certified Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. "To achieve this goal, Bowie must meet education and certification goal targets based on our population size including numbers of certified homes, schools, and community sites, such as places of worship or home owner association properties,” the release said.
