Bowie Fire Truck Santa Switches Schedule in 2013

Local firefighters will be bringing the jolly old elf up and down the streets of Bowie for just three nights this year, due to recent staffing changes at station 39.

Santa will be visiting Bowie neighborhoods via fire truck this year, but the schedule will be condensed, do in part to to the fact that station 39 is now all volunteer on evenings and weekends.

"The Bowie VFD Santa Rides will be done differently this year than in recent years because station 39 is now an all-volunteer station on nights and weekends, and we need to ensure that adequate staffing is available to provide fire and EMS coverage of that area," reads the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department's website.

Station 19, Old Town will bring Santa around on Dec. 20; station 39, Belair, will bring Santa around on Dec. 21 and station 22, Pointer Ridge, will bring Santa around on Dec. 22.

Rides will begin at 6 p.m. and end before 9 p.m. Santa won't be visiting every street this year, so that BVFD can make sure there is adequate coverage in case of an emergency, according to the website.

Firefighters will also be collecting canned goods for the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry. Last year, Santa's fans donated more than 3,400 food items to help feed local families, and the BVFD is hoping for generous donations again this year.

BVFD reminds parents not to allow children to climb on the fire trucks.

Just when can you expect Santa to swing by your neighborhood? You'll find the schedule, published on the BVFD website.
