Walmart Foundation Awards $32,000 to Maryland Community Connection

Grant will support organization's services in Prince George's County for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Walmart Foundation today announced it will provide a $32,000 grant to Maryland Community Connection through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program.

The grant will support the organization’s mission of maintaining and operating services in Prince George’s County for individuals with developmental disabilities and providing them with emotional support, training, and resources that will assist them in fully achieving greater social and economic independence.

The donation will specifically go toward supporting Maryland Community Connection’s Basic Needs Program with food package distribution services, which delivers food to individuals with disabilities and their families.

“Our organization is extremely appreciative and grateful that Walmart supports our mission to provide support and resources to disabled individuals throughout Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland,” said André Burno Coates, Maryland Community Connection Executive Director. “Walmart’s grant will particularly create a bridge for our agency to reduce the amount of individuals with disabilities who are hungry.”

According to the organization, the Walmart Foundation’s donation will aid the nonprofit in its distribution efforts by covering roughly 540 food packages to individuals with disabilities residing in Prince George’s County and Southern Maryland. Each packet contains enough food to feed a family of four along with healthier food preparation suggestions.

“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and we are pleased to lend support to this special cause,” said Nina Albert, Director of Community Affairs for Walmart. “Organizations like Maryland Community Connection are essential to building stronger communities. We are hopeful that members of this organization are positively affected by this grant and the Foundation’s impact is largely felt throughout Prince George’s County.”
