Local Relief Organization Seeks Donations for Illinois Deploy

Heroes for the Homeland will deploy to Illinois on Nov. 30.

A local disaster relief organization made up of Prince George's County and Anne Arundel County police, fire and EMTs is collecting donations as they prepare to deploy to Illinois.

Just a few days ago, tornados ripped through central Illinois, leveling homes, injuring dozens and killing at least five. Locally based Heroes for the Homeland will leave for Illinois on Nov. 30 to aid with recovery.

Heroes for the Homeland prioritizes helping the families of first responders in disaster-ravaged U.S. cities, so local emergency workers can be on the ground helping residents rebuild and recover. They also assist in local clean-up efforts.

Volunteers will leave for Illinois on Nov. 30 with three trucks and trailers. They are in need of the following supplies:

  • Non-perishable food
  • Work gloves
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Hand tools
  • Generators
  • Chain saws
  • Baby supplies
  • Blankets (new)
  • Towels
  • Gift cards
  • Socks and underwear (new)
Used clothing and water are not needed at this time, according to Prince George's County police Det. Chris Johnson, the president of Heroes for the Homeland. The group is also collecting monetary donations and gift cards to purchase fuel, food and supplies for deployed volunteers and other supplies as needed to aid in clean-up efforts.

Donations can be dropped off at FOP 89, 2905 Old Largo Rd. in Upper Marlboro, or at 2309 Hanover Pl. in Bowie.
