City Awards Grants to Programs for Seniors, Kids

Grants totaling $8,000 were awarded to three separate groups by the city's Community Outreach Committee.

Programs benefiting seniors and kids were the big winners this year when the City of Bowie Community Outreach Committee was awarding its 2013-2014 grants.

Each year, the committee selects recipients that are providing a needed service to the community. This year, committee awarded a three local grants for a total of $8,000.

A grant totaling $4,000 was awarded to support a program to various workshops around the county that will provide training and other resources to first responders and caregivers who deal with people who are ill or disabled.

The Bowie Senior Center was awarded a $3,000 grant to support its grief counseling services.

The third grant—for $1,000—was awarded to support a kids walk and fun run at the Bowie High School Track. It will be a half-day event that will encourage fitness an health in children.
