Baysox Accepting Donations, Nominations for Holiday Hope Program

The donations will got to help Bowie families in need this holiday season.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Bowie Baysox will collect new and gently used socks, coats and other winter clothing items to help local families in need stay warm this winter though Louie's Holiday Hope Project.

The project helped 16 local families with a total of 39 children just last year. The Baysox are partnering with the Prince George's County Fire Department and Bowie Youth & Family services to maximize the project's impact this year, according to a press release.

“The Bowie Baysox and Louie’s Holiday Hope Project have once again come to the aid of Bowie families and their children,” said Bowie Youth & Family Services Director Nancy Branch in a statement. “Each year, through their outreach to Bowie Youth & Family Services, they offer needy families a brighter and merrier Christmas and holiday season."

The Baysox are only able to offer this support due to the generosity of the community, said Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross.

“Each year we receive more and more donations allowing Louie and our organization to brighten the lives of more families in the area. With the help of our community partners and our fans, we hope to make this year the best one yet for the Holiday Hope Project," Shallcross said in a statement.

To nominate a family in need, email info@baysox.com. Nominators should include their own name and daytime phone number. The Baysox cannot help all families that are nominated, but if the family you nominate is selected you will be contacted for further information.

Prince George's Stadium will serve as a drop off location for clothing donations for the project. Fans and residents can bring gently used socks, coats and other warm items to the business office during regular hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 25.

Prince George's Stadium is located at 4101 Crain Highway in Bowie.

Local organizations interested in contributing to the program can e-mail info@baysox.com or call the Baysox front office at (301) 805-6000.
