Who was Dorothea Dix?

Celebrate Women’s History Month with a visit to Oxon Cove Park, and learn about Dorothea Dix, whose progressive ideas about the humane treatment of people with mental illness led to the founding of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.  Take a ranger-led walk around Oxon Hill Farm and learn about the therapeutic treatment of the patients who worked on Godding Croft, the hospital farm which operated on Oxon Cove Park’s property from 1891-1967.  For adults, and children ages 10 and up.  No fee.  Meet at the Visitor Barn.  For more information, call 301-839-1176.
