Prince George's Crime Victims' Town Hall to Address Crime Victims' Needs and Resources

A crime victims’ town hall will bring together victims and family members of victims to share their stories, learn more about victim family services in Maryland and discuss what legislators can do to enhance support for crime victims in the state and the agencies which provide services in the aftermath of crime. The December 6th event is open to the public and is for anyone who has been a victim of crime.


Speakers include:



  • Ricardo Wiggs and his wife, Sharon were shot in their home in 1992, Sharon later died. Wiggs was a leading advocate to win federal stocking legislation in the 1990s.

  • Margery Patten’s son, Mike, was murdered in 2001. She spends much of her time helping other families of homicide victims with their grief and loss as a volunteer with the Maryland State Board on Victim Services*.

  • Dee Gardner, director of victims’ services at Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center* in Upper Marlboro, MD, will share what services they offer to victims and survivors.

  • Bonnita Spikes, Maryland Citizens Against State Execution (MD CASE) Victim Organizer and an appointee to the Governor’s Board on Victim Services*. Her husband, Michael, was murdered 20 years ago. Spikes is a dedicated public servant and an advocate for victims and victim survivors at the Maryland legislature.


The event is sponsored by Maryland State Conference and the Prince George’s County Branch of the NAACP, Maryland Citizens Against State Executions (MD CASE) in partnership with the Rachel’s Fund Program of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

The event will be held at the Ark of Safety Christian Church where Maryland State Senator C. Anthony Muse serves as bishop.
