Gansler Proposes Law School at Bowie State if Elected

Gansler announced his candidacy for governor earlier this week.

Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler said Wednesday he would establish a new law school at Bowie State University if elected governor in 2014.

The Washington Post reports Gansler made the remarks during a speech at the University Town Center in Hyattsville.

Gansler has argued in the past that the new school would help create more minority lawyers, according to the Post report.

Gansler officially launched his campaign Tuesday. He joined a Democratic field that includes Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (with running mate Howard County Executive Ken Ulman) and Montgomery County state Del. Heather Mizeur.

A Brown campaign official questioned how Gansler would pay for his proposals Wednesday, which also include extending Washington Metro subway service to National Harbor

On the Republican side, Harford County Executive David Craig was the first to file for a gubernatorial run, with running mate Talbot County Del. Jeannie Haddaway.
