Waring, Clark Help Bowie Top Erie, 4-1

Waring drives in three; Clark throws eight strong innings as Baysox take 1 1/2-game lead for last playoff spot

Brandon Waring and Zach Clark combined to help Bowie rally for a 4-1 victory over Erie Sunday afternoon.

Waring hit a game-tying solo homer in the eighth and added a two-run double in the ninth that gave Bowie the three-run lead. LJ Hoes added an RBI single in a three-run ninth as the Baysox came all the way back after trailing 1-0 after seven innings.

Waring greeted relief pitcher Rob Waite with a homer to lead off the eighth. Hoes' RBI single broke the tie in ninth before Waring's double slammed the door.

Clark (10-8) might have pitched his best game this season. He gave up a run on two hits in the first inning as Erie took a 1-0 lead but retired 19 of the next 20 batters. He allowed one run on three hits in eight innings before Jose Diaz closed it in the ninth.

The win, coupled with Richmond's loss Sunday, gave Bowie a 1 1/2-game lead over the Flying Squirrels with eight game left. If the Baysox go 4-4 in their last eight games, Richmond would have to win six of eight to pass Bowie.
