NWS Warns of Intense Storm; Lightning, Hail Possible

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a special weather statement Monday in anticipation for strong thunderstorms affecting Prince George's and Montgomery counties as well as the District of Columbia.

The storm's intensity is increasing and the NWS says that frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes have been occurring.

They advise if you're close enough to hear the thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning and should take cover.

Heavy rain will likely reduce visibility to less than a mile and there's a possibility of excess water on the roads as well as hail and wind gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour.
