Heat Advisory to Continue Through Wednesday Evening

The National Weather Service is still urging people to stay indoors as temperatures will continue to be high through Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service is continuing the heat advisory on Wednesday, in effect from noon to 8 p.m.

The NWS is predicting the temperature to be in the mid-90s, with the heat index being between 100 and 105 degrees.

When a heat advisory is issued, periods of extreme heat are expected. The mix of the high temperatures and the high humidity will create conditions where heat-related ilnesses are possible. Young children, the elderly and pets are at the highest risk.

In addition to the heat advisory, a code orange air quality alert is also in effect, meaning that pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for those groups. People suffering from heart disease, asthma or other lung diseases should avoid strenuous activity outdoor.

The most important tip is to stay hydrated, drinking plenty of fluids. The NWS recommends water and sports drinks.

If being outside can't be avoided, frequent breaks in the shade and spending time in the air conditioning during the hottest part of the day are good precautions to take.

Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as temperatures can exceed 130 degrees in a matter of minutes.
