Update: Flash Flood Watch Through Wednesday Afternoon

Tropical Depression Lee continues to douse the area with heavy rain and flash flood conditions.

Update 10:54 a.m. Tuesday: As of 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service has extended the flash flood watch until Wednesday afternoon.

Original Post: The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Bowie through Tuesday evening. The watch extends to portions of Maryland, D.C. and Virginia.

According to the NWS website,  the rain is connected with remnants of Tropical Depression Lee and a slow moving front. This will continue to produce widespread rain around the D.C. Metro area.

Rainfall estimates are expected to average 1 to 2 inches. may accumulate higher totals as the ground saturates and creeks and streams run high.

Remember parts of our community are still saturated from heavy rain last week brought on by Tropical Storm Irene. The NWS warns flash flooding could result.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when approaching standing water. The NWS advises drivers to avoid going though roadways covered in water.
