City of Bowie, Baysox Hold Singing Auditions

Both the city and the baseball team are seeking individuals to sing the national anthem.

Think you’ve got singing chops?

Bowie residents have two chances to flex their vocal chords and showcase their singing talents in upcoming auditions for both the city and the Bowie Baysox.

The city of Bowie is holding open auditions for individuals or groups to perform the national anthem at various city events. They are also looking for individuals to act as stage announcers, or the Voice of Bowie, at various city events, including the Memorial Day Parade, Bowiefest, the Fourth of July and the International Festival.

Auditions will be held on Feb. 23 at the Kenhill Center. Singing auditions will be held at 9 a.m. and performers should come ready to sing The Star Spangled Banner a capella in front of a judging panel. Auditions for the Voice of Bowie will begin at 11:30 a.m. and candidates will be asked to read from a prepared script. The Bowie Baysox are also holding live national anthem auditions on March 16 at Prince George’s Stadium, according to a press release. The stadium will open at 9 a.m. and audition registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Auditions will be held rain or shine. CDs and lyric sheets will not be permitted, but instrumentalists are welcome.

The Star Spangled Banner will be sung before each of the Bowie Baysox’s 71 home games this year.

"There are a lot of really good singers in this area," said Baysox Marketing Director Brandan Kaiser in a press release. Kaiser will serve as a judge for the event.

"I look forward to hearing some of them perform the national anthem at our stadium. I also really enjoy hearing the groups and instrumentalists who try out," he said.

The auditions are for individuals and small groups. Large groups that are interested in auditioning should contact the Baysox in advance at 301-464-4880.
