Bites Nearby: Cup of Java

Bowie's offering includes six Starbucks.

Whether you’re drinking the night away or casually enjoying a late-night party, coffee is almost always a good choice following New Year’s Eve parties. So to make your life a little easier, here are some nearby java gems so you can get your “Joe” on after your done bringing in the New Year.

Bowie
When you want that certain oomph in your coffee, I can’t but help recommend one of the many Starbucks in Bowie. There is the variety of mochas, espressos, cappuccinos and of course coffees of the day the chain offers. But what I find most interesting about Starbucks is the consistency of its brew. What I have found is that the strong, bold Starbucks taste, an acquired one for some, is there virtually all the time. When I am in the mood for that, it is yummy, refreshing and jolting indeed. Locations in Bowie include: (Annapolis Road), (Town Center),   (Northview) , (Fairwood) and .

Crofton
The  offers an assortment of decadent coffee and teas. Plus you can always pair the drink up with something from the menu of fresh-baked bread items.

Annapolis
At , ease into a well-worn, comfortable leather chair in front of the fireplace and enjoy a cup (or two) of your favorite brew. Other than easy mornings, Zu has grown into a common gathering place for mommy events some mornings or support group meetings on others.

Both of these locally-owned shops can do the trick. One, you can wash your dog next door while you have coffee at the . The other, , is a local favorite with many laptops open and conversation flowing along with the great Big Bean Blend.

Edgewater
is tucked into the center of South River Colony Main Street off Mitchell's Chance Road in Edgewater. The owner also caters food, and offers a terrific sampling on his lunch menu. Kahve also has homemade soups that make you want to come back—even if you don't want to go back, your palate will be screaming, "Hey, go back there! We want to taste that again! That was good!"

Odenton
Folks in Odenton have long been lamenting the dearth of coffee shops in the area. There's no Starbucks, and the Caribou Coffee is a bit far away unless you have a reason to be down that way. But, there are two Dunkin' Donuts on opposite sides of town. There's the Piney Orchard location, and the DD across from Fort Meade features a drive-thru, so it's a popular place for morning commuters.

Glen Burnie
in Marley Station mall is an independently-owned coffee shop on the first floor of the shopping center. Only a store-front shop, there are a few tables in front of the store for you to sit and relax while you enjoy your cup of coffee. During the holidays the shop has offered seasonal flavors including pumpkin patch mocha, gingerbread mocha and maple spice latte.

Broadneck
As far as editor D. Frank Smith is concerned, the best coffee can be found at City Dock Coffee in the Bay Hills Shopping Center in Arnold. The atmosphere is mellow, the drinks are delicious and the cafe becomes a hub for the area on cold winter days.

Upper Marlboro
It's not like  is unique to Upper Marlboro's overly-caffeinated, yet the location along Campus Way in nearby Largo has taken on a Cheers-like feel, where the “usuals” sit outside the storefront, debating everything from the NBA to local politics. Step inside the quaint location, and the employees greet you with a smile and a cup of “Joe.”
