Bowie Still Dealing with Irene Aftermath, 3,900 Still Without Power

Down from 5,000 outages in Bowie on Monday, BGE continues working to restore power to residents across the city and in Maryland.

Roughly 3,900 BGE customers in Bowie are still without power—down from about 5,000 on Monday—after Tropical Storm Irene caused hundreds of thousands of outages across Maryland and the entire east coast.

Rachael Lighty, a spokesperson for BGE, said that the vast majority of their customers' power would be restored by Friday; however, some extended outages may cause power outages for some customers until the weekend.

“While the number of public safety issues is declining significantly, BGE continues to encourage customers to report downed wires by calling 1-877-778-2222,” said Jeannette M. Mills, senior vice president and chief customer officer for BGE in a release. “BGE’s call center has already handled more than 1.2 million calls and continues to operate at a heightened staffing level with more than 200 representatives actively engaged in storm response.”
