The Bowie area saw its share of big news in 2012. Now, with 2013 shining brightly in front of us, let's look back at some of Bowie's biggest stories of the year. The following list shows the top 10 most-read local stories of 2012.

10 - PHOTOS: Bowie's Pac-Man Attack

That ever-hungry yellow circle of 80 arcade game fame was spotted all over Bowie, courtesy of a mystery graffiti artist. Residents submitted photos of their Pac-Man sightings from various locations in the city.

9 - Bowie Home Consumed in Generator Fire

A home on Teal Lane was destroyed in a generator fire following the June 29 derecho, which left some residents in Bowie without power for several days.

8 - Likely Rabid Fox Attacks Two in Bowie

Residents were concerned in October after multiple sightings and two attacks by a likely rabid fox in Bowie's residential neighborhoods.

7 - Benjamin Tasker Welcomes New Principal

Ingrid Johnson took over the reins at Benjamin Tasker Middle School in August. Johnson was trained by the New Leaders Aspiring Principals Program, a program that trains principals to turn under-performing schools around. 

6 - County High School Diplomas Include Misspelling

The diplomas of 8,000 PGCPS high school seniors contain a blatant spelling error, misspelling the word “program” as “progam,” omitting the second “r.” 

5 - Bowie Man Sentenced for Falsifying Timesheets

Alfred Antanga, 52, falsified the time sheets of three WMATA employees, allowing them to collect more than $24,500 in unearned overtime and double time.

4 - Burning Death in Bowie Under Investigation

Jacqueline Renee Savoy, 30, burned to death in the back of a cab on Aug. 17 after allegedly attempting to rob the cab driver.

3 - Bowie Woman Run Over by Own Car

Marie Surowicz, 86, suffered fatal injuries on Sept. 16 after her own vehicle backed over her in the St. Edwards Catholic Church parking lot.

Bowie State academic adviser Patrick Raphael Toney died in April shortly after a confrontation with Anne Arundel County police. Toney faced accusations that he abused one of his children, his attorney said.

1 - Armored Vehicle Robbed at Bowie Wal-Mart

An armored car was robbed at the Bowie Wal-Mart in January of 2012. There was also a bomb threat at the store later in the year.
