Bowie Routs Akron, Keeps Pace in Western Division Race
Baysox crush Akron, 9-1, remain one-half game behind first-place Harrisburg, two ahead of Richmond
Ronnie Welty and Joe Mahoney led the offense, and pitcher Oliver Drake gave Bowie a solid start en route to a 9-1 victory over Akron Monday night.
The win improved Bowie to 70-57 and kept the Baysox one-half game behind Harrisburg in the Western Division. But Altoona rallied for a two-run, two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 victory over Richmond-- which gave Bowie a two-game lead over the Flying Squirrels with two weeks left.
Welty was 1-for-23 coming into the game but went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Mahoney belted a two-run homer as Bowie got two in the second and sixth plus four in the seventh to break open a close game.
