Gov. Bridge Road Closed, Officials Say No More Flooding Expected

Update, 2:50 p.m.: City officials have closed Governor Bridge Road at the Patuxent River due to flooding, an alert from the city noted. According to officials, no more flooding is expected in Bowie because of last night’s storms or as a result of the release of water from dams in the Laurel area.

Original Post: Two dams near the city of Laurel have been released by Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) to relieve pressure caused by Wednesday night's heavy rainfall, reports Laurel Patch. 

That the Patuxent River is typically at 2.4 feet when it enters the Triadelphia Reservoir, but the river reached 10.5 feet earlier Thursday. According to a press release from WSSC, they have released water from the Brighton Dam in Brookeville and the T. Howard Duckett Dam in Laurel.

As a result, city has advised the evacutation of downtown Laurel and reports that Bowie, Crofton and Upper Marlboro may be affected by the flooding. 

"Projected releases from the Duckett Dam on the Patuxent River have increased and flooding will occur along the Patuxent River from I-95 near Laurel downstream," according to a statement from city officials, reports Laurel Patch.
