Bowie-Area Nonprofits Making a Difference

In this week's Patch Picks, we highlight several nonprofits in the area.

This week's Patch Pick is devoted to the many nonprofits surrounding Bowie. This is just a sample of all the local nonprofits offered in and aroundtown (in no particular order).

Sport-4-All
This youth sports organization has been serving the Bowie and Crofton area for more than 20 years and offers developmental, non-competitive sports programs for kids. The programs are for kids aged 3 to 12 years old and offer some creative games like "Tchoukball" to supplement the traditional sports they also offer.

Bowie CLAW
This organization's mission is to "advocate for the interest and welfare of animals in the city of Bowie and the greater Bowie area." They've recently been advocating to the city . Regardless of which side of the argument for the shelter you're on, it's hard to deny they have the best intentions.

Community Crisis Services Inc.
While not located in Bowie, the organization works with many churches in Bowie to put on their "Warm Nights" program during the winter to help provide a place for the area's homeless to get a meal and a place to sleep for week-long stints. Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence
Though a state-wide initiative, this organization calls Bowie it's home with their headquarters located in the offices across the street from Bowie Plaza. They provide a wealth of information and resources for families and individuals dealing with domestic violence. Check out their recent data sheet, showing domestic violence data for Maryland based on new census data. They also updated their legislative goals for this year Thursday.

Bowie Boys and Girls Club
Established in 1963, the Bowie Boys and Girls Club has been a huge force in youth sports in the area. It's run entirely by volunteers and recently received some new leadership in Joe Bechtel who is the organization's new president and Joe Hoyt who serves as the vice president. are going on now, and check back with Bowie Patch for more on the BBGC in the near future.
