10 Valentine's Getaways With Your Special Someone

A look at 10 places near Washington, D.C., where you can go celebrate Valentine's Day.

The most important holiday of the year is coming up for couples. If you haven't already started planning your Valentine's romantic weekend away, here are some ideas that might just save the day.

For couples only:

  1. The Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Va., is about 87 miles away. This classic romantic getaway is a bit pricey, but worth the investment. Enjoy a meal by Chef Patrick O'Connell known for creating regional American cuisine. Spend the day shopping in the historic town, visiting art galleries and going to the theater.
  2. The Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Md., is about 68 miles away. This historic manor along the Chesapeake Bay is now a resort. Couples can enjoy golfing, fishing, sailing, horse-drawn carriage rides and historic tours.
  3. Williamsburg Inn in Willamsburg, Va., is about 174 miles away. Located in a historic town, this inn, which opened in 1937, has a restaurant, tennis courts, golf, spa and fitness club.
  4. Morrison House in Old Town Alexandria, Va., is only 27 miles from Bowie. It has all the comforts of a getaway weekend including a spa and you can also book their "A Fine Romance" package which includes, continental breakfast in bed for two and Prosecco & strawberries. The best part is the hotel is pet-friendly.
  5. The Victorian Inn in Luray, Va., is about 111 miles away. Not only can you enjoy a scenic drive through the Shenandoah Valley, but you can stay in a bed and breakfast so close to Luray Caverns.

For the entire family or a group of friends:

  1. Snowshow Mountain Ski Resort, in Snowshow, W.Va., is about 178 miles away. Enjoy snow tubing, sleigh rides; Kids' Night Out Program; snowcat and snowmobile tours.
  2. Wisp Resort in McHenry, Md., is about 195 miles away. Activities include ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoeing; a special Kidz Night Out and there will be NASTAR Racing on Feb. 13.
  3. Liberty Mountain Resort and Conference Center in Carroll Valley, Pa., is about 80 miles away. During the weekend you can enjoy snow tubing; Children's Learning Center programs; '80s weekend; and for a girls' weekend a two-day Burton Women's Camp.
  4. Whitetail in Mercersburg, Pa., is about 79 miles away. The ski resort features snow tubing, Kid's Mountain Camp and two terrain parks. They will host a Women's Day-ski/snowboard on Feb. 11.
  5. The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va., is 237 miles away. This resort is well-known for its golf course and spa. Visitors can hike, bike, fish, go horseback riding and canoeing.
