This wonderful Presa Canario mix was impounded by the Prince George’s Animal Control Officers for inhumane care and is now available for adoption.  In spite of the lack of attention and love this little girl received, she is a real sweetheart and loves people.  She needs to have a loving, forever home where she will find comfort and a great human relationship.

THIS DOGGIE  IS GREAT!!!!

 TEMPERAMENT and QUALITIES

 This is an extraordinarily powerful looking dog with a severe gaze. Especially suited to guarding and defense. It is of firm temperament with a grave and deep bark. The Presa Canario (Dogo Canario) is affectionate, docile and well behaved with his owner and family, but fierce with strangers. Independent and aggressive with other dogs, both of his own breed and other breeds. It has been used in the past as an excellent fighting dog. After the banning of dog fighting on the islands, the Canary dog undertook his role in the world as a natural guardian and family companion.

Presas are of strong character and are dominant animals requiring early socialization and obedience training. In some situations, the Presa can be aggressive toward other dogs and suspicious of strangers.Once the dog has been properly socialized and trained, this becomes the exception rather than the rule. Many Presas share their homes with children, other dogs, cats, horses and other farm animals.

Due to its temperament, they can be a challenge to train. They require a firm owner who is willing and able to meet the challenges a young, dominant puppy may pose. The breed is not traditionally suited for protection sports but it is gaining in popularity due to a small group of enthusiasts who have selected dogs based heavily on function. These dogs not recommended for the first time dog owner.

DESCRIPTION

Large, strong, and muscular dog that is longer than it is tall. It has a massive head which is covered with loose skin creating wrinkles, It has a short muzzle and a wide, black nose. The oval, medium-size eyes are medium to dark chestnut. The medium-size ears are naturally drop or rose, or cropped erect. There is a wide chest and thick, natural, saber like tail. The skin is thick and loose, especially at the head, and covered with a short, flat single coat. It is brindle or fawn with a dark mask.
