It's Only Mother Nature: Don't Blame the Weather Man

Yes, it is only six days before Easter and we had several inches of snow today. But don't blame the weather man. He only has computers to work with and sometimes they get cold or hot too.

Mother Nature does her thing no matter how hard we try to control her actions. Farmers can sometimes predict the weather from the past and how insects and crops react. That's where we get The Farmer's Almanac. It is usually pretty good too. My mom, nicknamed "The Weather Mom," quotes the Farmer's Almanac to me all the time. "We will get another big storm before spring," says The Weather Mom, and she is usually right.

Schools, businesses and goverment agencies close when there is a dusting of snow. But then they stay open when weather is bad. They are only doing what they think is best for the students, teachers, bus drivers and employees by closing for the day. Everyone is usually happy with a "snow day." They get an unexpected day off to do whatever they want. Most employees get paid for snow days.

Snow plows are usually ready when they are needed to put down salt to melt the ice and snow and plow. Sometimes we need trucks to come in from other states when the power goes out. After three days of waiting, I finally had a contractor from West Virginia help me get a neighbor's tree off my garage and restore power several years ago.

It's just Mother Nature showing off again. But don't forget the bread, milk and toilet paper.
