Downhill skier and 2010 gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, the face of Under Armour Inc. in recent advertising, will not compete next month in the Winter Olympics at Sochi because of a knee injury.

Vonn’s publicist said the skier "will have surgery shortly," said WJLA TV

On her Facebook page, Vonn said: “I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi. I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having no ACL but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level. I'm having surgery soon so that I can be ready for the World Championships at home in Vail next February.”

The Baltimore Business Journal says Vonn’s withdrawal from the Sochi Winter Games is a blow to Under Armour, the Baltimore sportswear company that has supported Vonn for years and currently features her in new advertisements highlighting the company’s ColdGear.

In a statement, Under Armour told the Business Journal: "We wish Lindsey a speedy recovery to full health and look forward to seeing her back out on the hill for the continuation of her remarkable career."
