Sports Zone in Bowie Town Center Undergoes Remodel

Though there are some noticeable changes afoot at the Sports Zone in Bowie Town Center—clearance signs in the windows and new walls going up—the store is not joining Bed Bath & Beyond and Old Navy in the exodus of retailers from the shopping center.

According to John Mastrianni, vice president for sales and marketing for Sports Zone, the location is undergoing a remodel. The new, smaller store is being renovated into the chain’s “boutique” look, said Mastrianni.

Sports Zone sells a variety of sports shoes, apparel, and accessories. The new look, said Mastrianni, will give them a fresh edge.

“This look sets us aside from our competition and gives us a more inviting and cool environment,” Mastrianni wrote in an email.

The redesigned space will allow for 8-foot vendor-based displays and better presentation of store's clothing and unique, custom hats from New Era, according to the company. 

The store will remain open as it undergoes renovation, he said. Renovations are expected to be complete by March 15.

The revamped store will be noticeable smaller. The side of the store closest to Macy’s has been walled off, and 3,100 feet are being built out for a new store, Fashion to Figure.

Fashion to Figure is set to open in Bowie Town Center sometime this spring.
