Bowie Tech Company Named Best Place to Work

Plan B Technologies in Bowie received the Best Place to Work Award by the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council for Businesses.

Looking for a new job in the technology field? Look no further than Bowie-based Plan B Technologies, recent recipients the Best Place to Work award from the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council.

Plan B Technologies is an IT service and solutions company with about 80 employees and, according to Plan B Marketing Director Katie Mish, it is indeed a great place to work.

“Management understands that we’re all human beings and have lives,” Mish said. “If you have something you’re dealing with on a personal scale they’re really understanding cause they know that’s going to affect your work.”

A council of 12 selected Plan B out of 40 submissions for the four awards presented at its 8th annual TechAwards, themed “Geek is the new Chic.” The other award categories were Tech Company of the Year, Innovator award and The Woman in Tech award.

Companies from the Annapolis-Washington-Baltimore area could be nominated for the award by themselves or others.

"The Best Place to Work award recognizes a technology company that fosters a spirit of innovation and creativity in its employees, provides benefits that encourage employee work/life balance and works to inspire greatness in its employees," said Gretchen Snow, membership and marketing manager for Chesapeake Tech.

Plan B seems to do just that. For example, two weeks ago Mish's car got a flat tire, two of her coworkers came and helped her change it.

“The company is family-oriented,” she added. “We have family movie nights, picnics at Sandy Point, baseball game tickets… many of the people who work here, hang out together [outside of work].”

Plan B also promotes community involvement and volunteer work and gives every employee a day off to perform service in the community. The company is involved in food pantries such as the End Hunger pantry in Calvert County, and in past years employees ran a 7k for St Jude Children’s Hospital.

“There’s always something happening,” Mish said, referring to the company's involvement with the community.
