New Businesses Coming to Bowie Plaza

The shopping center on Laurel-Bowie Road will have a different tenant mix soon.

Bowie Plaza is getting some new tenants and the businesses could be open by the spring.

According to a release from Regency Centers, the operator and developer of the shopping center, the new tenants include:

  • Fitness 4 Less will open its fifth gym in the DC/Baltimore area in the 21,750-square-foot space.
  • Peeper’s Family Eye Care leased 2,400 square feet of retail space.
  • Dunkin’ Donuts leased 1,600 square feet of space and will offer a drive-thru option.

Patch also reported on the intentions of Sharon White to open , a custom cake and confection boutique, in the shopping center.

Bowie Plaza is located at 6824 Laurel-Bowie Rd. and includes a mix of national and local retailers. There is still space available for lease in the shopping center. For leasing information, contact Jack deVilliers at 410-789-1126.

finally, the vision of "space" just sitting, vacant is/was unsightly. no matter what, new business in the city is a plus. mike rogers aka sheriff of Rockledge

Sure wish it had been Magruders coming back to Bowie! We don't need another fitness cener. Planet Fitness at Hilltop is the best. I'll bet this one won't last long.

I would love a Dunkin Donuts closer to home. I drive to Crofton as the location nearest Fairwood is awful.

Dunkin Donuts... Really... I would rather see businesses such as Trader Joe's, Margruders, World Market or Whole Foods. Those are the type of establishments missing in Bowie. I'm not impressed.

Trader Joe's would be awesome!

Amen to the other comments -- another fitness center? Really? That's the last thing Bowie needs! I'd give it a year at most (Planet Fitness is the best deal in town!) And another Dunkin Donuts when there's already one less than 2 miles away off of Highbridge Road?! I suppose they think people are going to grab some donuts and a coffee at the Dunkin Donuts after working out at the fitness center! Bring back Magruder's PLEASE!!!! Just like Anna, I am NOT impressed (and not happy, either).

Trader Joe's would have been perfect for that location! Do we need another gym or Dunkin Donuts? I don't think so. Four gyms and one Dunkin Donuts within a four mile radius. DD within 1 mile of the other....really?

i believe Giant Food holds the leasing to the area. Realistically, NO food chain would get the lease. Personally, i believe that any enterprise entering these vacant buildings is more welcome then just the empty building mike rogers

The city should do more to entice businesses such as world market, TJ's and whole foods to open stores in Bowie. Its a shame that you have to travel to Annapolis to shop at these stores. I'm sorry but another Dunkin Donuts on 301/3 is not necessary. It only promotes unhealthy eating. I think there are enough fast food establishments in the area.

a trader joes would pull in people from miles around. unfortunately they don't seem to be very interested. in the meantime i would be happy to give a dunin donuts at this location my business,

I would love to see more mid/high-end retail come to Bowie too. I'm really disappointed that Big Lots is moving into the old Border's Books space near Target. I suppose we are only getting what retailers think our local economy can sustain. And, I would obviously rather see a successful business in there vs. the space just sitting empty. *Trader Joes fans should check out MOMs at Hilltop. Not quite the same, but the closest thing we have. It's a really nice store.

"New" businesses, seriously? Fitness 4 Less is relocating from its current location at Old 450 and 197. Peepers is moving from Free State. Dunkin Donuts is less than 2 miles up the road on Highbridge. I agree with most readers - I'd rather see a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Wegmans would have been great, too! Guess Lanham, Gambrills, and Annapolis have a lot nore to offer than Bowie.

I cannot tell you how many times I submitted requests to the Trader Joes website about the space vacated by Giant. How perfect would that have been...to have one in Bowie rather than traveling to Annapolis or Columbia. I agree on both counts...yes, it's better to fill a vacant space, but yes, we also need higher end merchants. Why is it that Bowie is continually ignored when it comes to higher end retail? Seems to me if anyone were doing their demographic homework they'd see us for the gold mine we are.
