Irie Café Proprietors Apply for Liquor License

The restaurant opened quietly on Friday.

Update, 4:30 p.m.:  Irie Café Jamaican Grille opened quietly in Bowie on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. A fresh story with hours and price points will follow soon. The liquor license is still pending the hearing later this month.

Original story, 12:11 p.m.: In what could be a promising step towards the opening of Irie Café Jamaican Grille in Bowie, the establishment's proprietors have applied for a Class B License to serve alcoholic beverages at the restaurant.

The restaurant's application is set to be reviewed by the Prince George's County Board of License Commissioners during its Dec. 17. meeting, according to the online agenda.

Renovations on the 3,370 square-foot space in Hilltop Plaza adjacent to the Chesapeake Grille & Deli began this past summer, with a sign boasting the new cafe.

The renovations on the space appear to be finished, and the proprietors advertised a hiring fair in October, but the cafe has yet to open for business.

There are several other Irie Café locations in Prince George's County, in Largo, Brandywine and Forestville, so the locally owned chain does seem to enjoy some regional success.

Do you think a liquor license holds the key to opening the restaurant, or do you think the fate of the cafe could mirror that of the long the long delayed, never opened Muffin Man Café, once slated for that same space? Tell Patch in the comments.
