Golden Pavilion Asian Bistro Opening Tuesday

After an issue with the building inspection delayed the restaurant from opening in May as planned, owner Steve Zhang said he's excited and ready to roll for Tuesday.

Bowie’s first Chinese restaurant is re-opening Tuesday as Golden Pavilion Asian Bistro, complete with some of the old and some of the new.

Opening in 1967 at its previous location in Bowie Plaza, the restaurant is staying in the same shopping center. Owner Steve Shang closed up shop at the original Golden Pavilion in October.

Zhang hoped to have things running earlier in the year, but he ran into delays in the building and inspection process. Now that everything has been resolved and he has all his permits in order, he said he is more than ready to open the doors again.

"I'm really excited. I can't wait to be open," Zhang said. "I can't wait to see all my regulars and new customers. [Our regulars] have been stopping by a lot and asking me when we'll be open."

Those regulars won't have to wait much longer. Proof of local enthusiasm for the Golden Bistro to reopen was clear in the comments section of Patch’s article about the restaurant's closing last year.

Howard Feldman, a State Farm insurance agent in Bowie and long time fan of the restaurant, commented, "The mark of a good Chinese restaurant to me has been their ability to offer a good egg roll. The Golden Pavillion has always had the most incredible egg rolls … anywhere."

Another user, Donald Bedwell, said the atmosphere that Zhang and his wife Wendy create has wooed him back time and again.

"The special friendship that Steve and Wendy brought to the restaurant hasn't been found in other establishments yet, and we've been looking,” he said.

"I know the new location will continue to provide a warm atmosphere, great food and the opportunity to relax with the friends we've dined with for years.”

While the new restaurant is introducing a lot of new menu options—check back soon for those delicious details—patrons will still be able to order their old standbys.

"We kept most of the Golden Pavillion's regular menu, but we've also added a sushi bar, Japanese dishes like Teriyaki Chicken and a full bar," Zhang said.

For the grand opening, the restaurant is offering a 15 percent discount off the normal menu prices, and a Groupon deal where customers can buy a $10 coupon for $15 worth of food at the restaurant.

The restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and will stay open until 10:30 on weekends.

They also kept the same phone numbers from the previous location: 301-262-7777 or 301-262-7778.
