National Coffee Day is this Sunday, Sept. 29. If you’re dragging a bit, you can get a free cup at a number of local coffee shops. Here are some of the deals and Bowie-area locations:

Caribou Coffee, 2638 Chapel Lake Dr., Gambrills. You can download and print out the National Coffee Day coupon from Caribou Coffee’s Facebook page and bring it with you to get a free cup of coffee. Or, show it on your cell phone when you order.

While there are some health concerns about over-consumption of caffeine, “for most people the health benefits [of consuming coffee] outweigh the risks,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

In moderation, coffee may help prevent Parkinson’s disease, Type 2 diabetes and liver cancer. It also contains antioxidants. It some people, unfiltered coffee may elevate cholesterol in people with certain genetic mutations. Read more about the health benefits (and risks) from drinking coffee here.
