Charming Charlie Now Open in Bowie Town Center

The women's accessory boutique hopes to draw new shoppers to the area.

Last week marked the grand opening of Charming Charlie in the Bowie Town Center, the second branch of the women’s accessory boutique to open in Prince George’s County.

It’s clear from the moment you enter Charming Charlie that something is visually different about the store, which is filled with handbags, jewelry, scarves and other accessories.

“We split things apart into what we call color vignettes,” said Kristin Fitzsimmons, the general store manager for the Bowie location.

Many people buy the outfit and then need the matching accessories, said Fitzsimmons. The way things are broken up by color or pattern makes it easy for store associates to help customers find what they need, be it a blue scarf, a red belt or a leopard-print handbag.

Fitzsimmons said that Charming Charlie prides itself on customer service.

“We really enjoy our customers and thats really what our whole company is founded on,” she said.

Fitzsimmons said the store only carries 6 to 12 pieces in any one style, so once it’s gone, it’s gone.

The store rotates its merchandise about twice a month, so it can stay current on the trends. Fitzsimmons said there is usually a good selection of marked-down merchandise in the back.

Since the store has been open, Fitzsimmons says she has already seen repeat customers. She’s hopeful the Charming Charlie will become a shopping destination and increase overall shopping traffic in Bowie Town Center.
