Bowie Business Innovation Center Celebrates One Year

The small business incubator has already graduated one client company in its first year.

With ice cream, cake and more than 80 entrepreneurs and public officials present, Prince George's County's fastest growing business incubator celebrated its one year anniversary and the graduation of its first client company in May. 

The Bowie Business Innovation Center currently has 14 client companies, many of which are women-owned. Bowie BICs first graduate was woman-owned Magadia Consulting, Inc., a technical and consulting first that was recently awarded a a multi year contract with the Maryland Department of Information Technology. 

Magdalena Gebrekristos, the company's CEO, is also an alumna of Bowie State University.

“Today we celebrate two milestones: our first year of operations and our first graduate company,” Carroll James Harris, said in a statement. Harris serves as the chair of the Bowie BIC board of directors.

“The active support of our public and private sector partners has been critical to our success during this first year, he stated.

Bowie BIC is an independent non-profit that operates out of offices housed in Bowie State University. Bowie BIC's supporters include Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid M. Turner (D-District 4), the City of Bowie, Bowie State University, Maryland Technology Development Corporation; and corporate sponsors The Washington Savings Bank—now Old Line Bank— and CliftonLarsonAllen.
