White House Community Leaders Briefing (Part I)

Bowie, Maryland and the White House & Bi-partisan Effort for every community.

I had the opportunity and honor to attend the second White House Community Leaders Briefing Series. This event is hosted by The White House Office of Public Engagement, and is an opportunity for the White House to share information with community leaders from across the country on the Small Business Administration, Energy and the Environment, Affordable Care Act, the Department of Education, the Economy and more.

This was not my first time attending an event at the White House, however it was a special day for me personally and professionally. After listening to the White House staffers, and networking with Carolyn a Native American advocate from Seattle, Mary a Civil Rights Attorney from New Orleans, and Adowa Ansah, from Connecticut who has founded Women of Praize an organization that focuses on motivating women in politics.

I immediately knew I am not alone in my quest to educate, empower, and enlighten the community on programs that can assist them in reaching their personal and professional goals. This meeting was also another confirmation on why I respect, admire, and appreciate President Obama and his administration.

To anyone out there that believes this administration has not done enough to help you, your community, and the country I have five words for you: the president cares about you. I did not need this event to learn that President Obama is doing great work, I already knew because I make it a point to read, research, and watch every move our government officials make. If you want to find out what the president has done for you, go to www.whitehouse.gov.

In short I watch them all with a keen eye because they have the power to make decisions to change the life of my family, my neighbors, friends, myself, and you the reader of this blog post.

And I (and you) have the power to influence legislators by informing them of what is needed not only in my community, and our country, but the people I work with through my job as the Director of Public Policy & Community Outreach at The Capital Area Food Bank – DC.

I also now have information to take back to my community in Bowie, MD that I will share with World Wide Community—a faith based organization that focuses on the positive growth and development of our youth,—and with The Bowie Community Outreach Committee that advises the local City Council and Mayor on issues that will allow our city to progress in a positive way.

My work will not stop with providing information to organizations that I am involved with, it will go above and beyond not just today and tomorrow but for as long as I walk this earth.

I am challenging every person young and seasoned to do the same, do it for your community, do it for yourself. I guarantee you will see positive results.  It should go without saying that I am thankful for the information provided to me today.  And I am thankful for all of the speakers that spoke at the evnet. And my favorite speaker; President Barack Obama! Yeah that was cool.

On Thursday, June 30th I’ll be going into more detail about The White House Community Leaders Briefing Series. You don’t want to miss what I have to say, but if for any reason you do you know how to find me! Now Mr. President, can I get a invite to sit down and talk with you, or a State Dinner will do. Better yet just keep doing the great job you’re doing and we all will be just fine.

“…we make a life by what we give”.

In my next blog I will share information on resources that Bowie residents can use to start their own small business.
