Spotlight on Bowie Gardens for Wildlife!

The Bowie Green Team has its own subcommittees and projects to work on, some of which are underway and some are still in planning stages. But the team has also partnered with other organizations in the city to gain more by working together. One such organization is Bowie Gardens for Wildlife (BG4W), a well-established group of volunteers who are working to have Bowie certified as a National Wildlife Federation certified Community Wildlife Habitat! This important recognition would demonstrate Bowie's commitment to promoting biodiversity and the natural ecosystem within our city limits.

How can you help??

To help Bowie achieve this certification, you can be part of the growing number of Bowie homeowners who create a backyard habitat in their own yards. Basically, a backyard habitat provides the opportunity for native wildlife to have food, water, cover, and a place to raise young. Native plants can provide food, bird baths can provide water, shrubs can provide cover, and mature trees might provide a place for young. A successful habitat attracts pollinators such as bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies, and allows animals and plants to flourish in harmony. The possibilities are endless!
