Who' Lucky?

As I was walking on the track this morning jamming out to Daft Punk's Up All Night, you know the song that says I'm up all night to get lucky, I literally started laughing to myself.

At what point to you go from staying up all night to "get lucky" to staying up all night because your Ambien didn't kick in, your bladder didn't fully empty, you are so hot and it's 20 degrees out? When did staying up all night waiting for my kids to arrive home become my lifestyle? When did mid life smack me in the face? One would think I would feel this, but no, not this lady. The last time I was up all night trying to get lucky was the night I was in Lake Tahoe at the black jack table! And guess what? I was so not lucky!

Maybe I should join a 24 hour fitness center for the middle age insomniacs,  I would bet you, it's very crowded at 2:00 in the morning as all of the insomniacs wait their turn for the treadmill. How many of you are on Facebook all night, Twitter, making your to do lists in the middle of the night? I thought so!  Yeah, I'm up all night to get lucky all right, if this means hearing my cat at 2:00 a.m. wanting to be let in, I'm the luckiest woman out there! But hey, if there were a cat burglar in the neighborhood, I would be the lucky one to catch him! Go me!

I often think if everything I needed was open all night, I could run errands during the night and have all day to nap! Anyone else like this idea? Meet me at Starbucks....say at 4:a.m., then the cleaners, then the grocery store, back home in time to see the rest of the house waking up all refreshed only to tell you, "mom, you look like you've been up all night". I love compliments, don't you?

When I hear my daughter sing this song, I cringe. As she gets ready to leave for college, the only all nighters she best be pulling are to study! Right? Right! Can you see me now up all night with worry while she is in school not answering her phone and thinking is she "getting lucky" Oh dear Lord!

Anyway, getting back to being up all night to get lucky or unlucky, when do we begin to stay up all night and really, is it our bodies, minds, or a combination? What does one have to think about in the middle of the night except trying to sleep, counting sheep, or trying not to wake the rest of the house up as I do! I walk into walls, I step on shoes not put away and scream out something that means ouch at that minute! I will make a pot of coffee in the middle of the night! Gee, lucky me, or Folger's stock for that matter! I think the middle of the night would be a perfect time to paint our nails because no one would be up to ask us to do something that might mess them up....well, except our bladders!

For those of you that are up with me, let's move on to the next song by Carly Rae Jepsen, Call Me Maybe!?!  If not, here's to all of you getting lucky, think of me when you hit the lottery!

Nighty nite!
