Campus Raves, Not Of The Dance Variety!

For those of you that have been following me for a while, know that last summer I made my initial college visit with my daughter to KSU. The hotel left me Gatorade in the bed, and the stained sheets to match. However, it was a great first visit, car ride and all!

One year later:

If you love country music, then by all means, drive to Ohio! I kid you not, there is not a rock n roll station , top 40, news, or any other for my six hour drive! So, I was the recipient of Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton again! Granted, he's a good looking guy, funny, and I love him on The Voice! But trust me folks, I do not want to chew tabbaca and spit....ever! Wait you say, wasn't your daughter with you, couldn't you have talked to her, why yes, in fact I did, I asked her for six hours who she was texting, who just called, looked at her pictures on Instagram and saw many tweets!

Ah, we arrive at the brand new Kent Hotel, opened for only a week. Everything smelled new and was so nice. A welcoming lobby, nice front desk folks, the whole package! We made an early night of it because we had a twelve hour orientation day ahead of us the next day. I was already complaining and had not even stepped foot on the campus.

I woke up early and went down to the lobby for coffee, when I came back up my key did not work, so I knocked on the door, a loud 'voice answered YEAH?, oops wrong door, but hey buddy, if I'm up, you need to be up too! I mean really, it's 5:30 a.m., up and at em! hubba hubba, But really, I felt bad! My daughter checked us in, she was sleeping in the dorm with her upcoming roommate. We brought her things up to her closet of a room and started our day. Parents went one way while the kids went another. Wait I thought, I want to go with the kids!  We met back for lunch, and when I tell you I ate enough to choke the whole stable, not just one horse, I'm not lying to you. I can see if it were me, the freshman 15 would definitely be the freshman 50!

The following are some things I learned over the two days while being on a college campus!

1) If you send your kid a card with no money in it and tell them to have a great time with the 50.00 that you sent them, you will for sure hear from them! 2) Robo hits are latest and greatest. Apparently you mix 3 oz's of cough syrup with soda and get a body high. Folks if I just get out of bed, I'm on a body high! And why the soda I wanted to asked but refrained! 3) You can't sell your plasma if you don't own a tv! Really, and you are in college? I hope you're not studying common sense! 4) Apparently Spanish taught at one college is not always the same as at KSU, and here I thought adios was the same everywhere! Perhaps not, maybe it's like Shalom in Hebrew where it could mean 3 things, hello, good by, and peace. Therefore, my daughter has to take a Spanish test to get her credits to transfer. Doesn't make for a happy mama. Now I have to pay 1800.00 for another Spanish class when I paid 150.00 last year as she was a senior in high school. 5) In case a student is starving at 3:00 a.m. Insomnia Cookies will deliver to your dorm! Hello freshman 100! 6) RA does not stand for rheumatoid arthritis, but resident assistant. Okay, I admit, I think in medical terms theses days. AARP has a way of doing this to the over 50 crowd! But remember 50 is the new 29 right? 7) I heard a great talk from Devin Crosby, he is the deputy athletic director at KSU, he gave a great speech about the number 48. Yes, in 48 months, we would all be back for our kid's graduations. How fast the time goes, and to network and learn as much as you can in those 48! Really it was inspiring. For those of you on Twitter, you should follow him @DevinICrosby  Mine better graduate in 48, hey, that is going to be my new theme song, because, that is all this mama will pay for. So, no robo anything for you kiddo or you'll be selling plasma! HA!

I tell you, college is so different today, they make it impossible for you not to succeed, after all, they are dealing with the entitled generation. They have career counselors, people that help you write papers, citation generators, no, these are not the campus police but sites you can use on a paper without actually looking them up!

Anyway, it was a  long long day. I stopped and bought what I thought was suntan lotion, ended up being rum. A new way to get drunk guys, directly applying said rum on your body! These parents are going to ask if AA is on campus for parents! I should have bought some cd's for the ride home!  When I got back to the hotel, I was hot, tired annoyed and took it out on the front desk girl. However, I will use this time to send a S/O to Mike the manager for doing the right thing and making me a happy mama again. The Kent Hotel will be my go to hotel for the next four years! It best not be four and a half due to credits they will not let transfer!

I am happy with my daughter's choice of school, it's hard though, when everything is being directed toward the child and you have no say in it, but yet, you are paying for it. I will have my say believe me, as all of you know, I am not a woman of "few" words!

It won't be hard to let her go because I know she will be in great hands at KSU, but, I'll surly miss her!

Stay tuned for updates! First one at drop off, send tissue lots of it! This will be a no mascara day for sure!
