The Royal Baby is Here! What are Maryland's Most Popular Baby Names?

There are some new entries in the top five most popular names for baby boys in 2012, according to new data from Social Security Administration.

While no one knows yet what Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, will name the new Royal Baby, the Social Security Administration released its annual list of America's most popular baby names. 

In Maryland, there was a distinctly Elizabethan feel to the most popular girl baby names of 2012 in Maryland, while parents of boys got totally Biblical.

The top five baby names for boys:

  1. Mason
  2. Michael
  3. Jacob
  4. Noah
  5. Ethan
The top five baby names for girls:
  1. Sophia
  2. Emma
  3. Ava
  4. Olivia 
  5. Isabella
That list, surprisingly, didn't deviate much from the national top baby names:

The top five baby names for boys:
  1. Jacob
  2. Mason
  3. Ethan
  4. Noah
  5. William
The top five baby names for girls:
  1. Sophia
  2. Emma
  3. Isabella
  4. Olivia
  5. Ava
