Local Company Receives Best Theatre Nomination

Bowie's own 2nd Star Productions has received a host of nominations in the Maryland Theatre Guide's Readers' Choice Awards.

In a nod to the local arts scene, the Bowie Playhouse resident company, the all-volunteer 2nd Star Productions, has been nominated in the Best Theatre category by the Maryland Theatre Guide as part of its Readers' Choice Awards.

The company was founded in 1995 and has been producing comedies and musicals at the Bowie Playhouse since their inception. Jane Wingard, one of the founders of 2nd Star, is thrilled by the nomination.

“We are an all-volunteer theatre company and we work really, really, really hard,” Wingard said. “To be recognized, that people recognize the amount of work that goes into to this, would be wonderful.”

Last year’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” has also been nominated for Best Musical. Four actors in the company also received nominations for their work in “Fiddler” and in “Oklahoma!”

  • Fred Nelson has been nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Musical for his role as Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
  • Zac Fadler has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role as Fyedka, also  in “Fiddler.”
  • Michael Galizia has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his role as Judd Fry in “Oklahoma!”
  • Rebecca Feibel has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as Aunt Eller in “Oklahoma!”
