City Unveils New Public Art at Allen Pond

A new mural, which was created by a local artist, has been installed at Allen Pond Park.

One of Bowie’s favorite parks is now the home of the city’s newest piece of public art, a large mural created by a local artist.

“Life at Allen Pond Park," a 15 foot wide by 6 foot high mural, was recently installed on a wall of the boathouse at Allen Pond Park. The mural is made of acrylic paint on PVC panels.

“The mural celebrates some of the variety of what Bowie residents and their neighbors enjoy about Allen Pond and includes the pond, some swings, and various sports found at the Park, and the playground,” according to a statement released by the city.

The artist, George Tuggle Jr., is Bowie resident. Tuggle is a member of Passageways Artist Studio and a member of the city’s arts committee.

Tuggle, who has been working on the mural since last summer, said the mural was “labor of love and passion.”
