Cancellation of 2014 Chesapeake Bay Blues Fest 'Unavoidable,' Organizer Said

The blues festival's organizers hope for a return in 2015.

One of the region's biggest music festivals won't be back in 2014, event organizers said this week.

The Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, held annually at Sandy Point State Park in Broadneck, regularly draws crowds of thousands. But recent complications have caused its organizers to reconsider a 2014 show.

An announcement on the event's website said "a variety of reasons" led to the cancellation of the 2014 festival.

"We regret that the Chesapeake Bay Blues festival will not be held in 2014 due to a variety of reasons.  We have every intention of coming back in 2015," according to the site.

"As much as we love doing these festivals, the cancelation was unavoidable," according to the group's Facebook page.

The festival has helped raise nearly $1 million for local charities since it began in 1998. This year's festival was highlighted by performances from Bonnie Raitt and Eric Burdon and the Animals.
