Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Prince George's County

Snow, sleet and freezing rain may fall in Prince George's County before Monday.

Prince George's is one of several counties in Maryland under a winter weather advisory starting Sunday morning.

One to two inches of snow may fall before Monday morning, with two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulating, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast shows the following for Sunday:

  • Snow before 1 p.m.
  • Freezing rain and sleet from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Rain/freezing rain after 4 p.m.
  • Rain by 1 a.m. Monday
A winter weather advisory means snow, sleet and freezing rain will make travel a challenge, according to the weather service, which advised drivers to be prepared for slick roads, icy conditions and limited visibility Sunday into Monday morning.

Power outages are also possible since the mixture of "snow and ice has the potential to coat trees and tree limbs, which may then fall onto power lines..." Carol Dodson, vice president of BGE, said. "Some outages may be extended if hazardous road conditions delay our crews’ ability to travel and begin restoration work."

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Charles, Harford and Prince George's counties.

Temperatures will stay in the low 30s in much of the state.
